An intense 5 day course covering all aspects of corset making from beginning to finish. During this summer school, students will
Draft a corset pattern from scratch using their own measurements
Learn how to engineer a corset pattern and how it works on the body
Learn to fit the corset properly and make adjustments
Pattern manipulation - how to change the basic pattern with notes on style lines and adding cups
Make a three layer corset with fashion fabric and lining including turn of cloth techniques and how to avoid the dreaded wrinkles!
Embellish the corset with their choice of lace, flossing, embroidery, crystal application etc.,
There will be breif notes on how to alter a basic corset pattern to make a more interesting pattern and how to acheive different looks with different types of decorative effects such as how to make external boning channels and how to use cording.
This is a very intense course and it is recommended that attendees are familiar with basic block patterns for dressmaking as this will aid understanding of the corset block.
The corset patterning section will cover
How the measurements relate to the body and the pattern
How to transfer those measurements onto paper to create a beautiful shape altering garment - a 12 panel overbust corset.
We will then make a toile and fit it perfectly before going on to make a three layer fashion corset which will cover essential techniques such as turn of cloth and how to make straight stitching lines. After the corset is made we will embellish it with flossing and other sparkly things - students must bring their own lace/crystals/feathers/trims etc.,

How to apply rhinestones and sequins

This is an advanced course for experienced seamstresses.
Basic sewing techniques and basic corsetry information will not be covered. You must know how to grain up fabric, how to follow a commercial dressmaking pattern, how to make bias binding and you must know the basics of corsetry components, how to insert a busk, and what corset boning looks like. The workshop does not cover general sewing techniques.
The following materials will be supplied to each person:
Pattern drafting paper
Spiral and flat boning
Students should bring:
Fashion fabric (with ready made bias binding to match)
Notepad and pens/pencils
Favourite sewing items
A more comprehensive list of what students should bring with them will be supplied upon confirmation of booking.
There will be opportunities to look at part made and complete corsets, different types of corsetry and also a chance to leaf through an extensive library of corset books.
The cost of this 5 day unique course is £1000.00 per person and includes all tuition, venue hire, morning and afternoon refreshments and lunch every day. This is a unique course not offfered anywhere else in the world and taught by an acknowledged expert in the field. Because of the format of the workshop it will not be possible to attend for one day only.
Payment options available, either pay all in one go, or 4 installments over feb/march/april/may - installment options will decrease month by month. ie: 3 installments by end Feb, 2 installments by end March etc.,

This corsetry course is taught by Julia Bremble, author of the best selling e-book, "Corset Making, from beginner to intermediate" published by Rainbow disks in 2012. Julia who has been making corsets for 10 years runs the popular online corset making supplies shop Sew Curvy and also operates a bespoke corsetry service under the label Clessidra. Julia, through her study of anthropometrics and anatomy alongside traditional pattern cutting, has developed a unique method and approach to corset making which she has been teaching for the past 4 years. During that time she has become established and acknowledged as a leading expert in the field and has taught students from all over the world in her woodland studio in rural Oxfordshire.
