Must be comfortable with a sewing machine and a commercial dress pattern with defined bust. Prior experience with corsetry is not a huge must, but experience with bust darts or bra making will be an advantage.
Tuition by Alison Campbell of Crikey Aphrodite, and Julia Bremble of Sew Curvy / Clessidra, materials, lunch and refreshments for 2 days.
A two day corset making masterclass explaining how to make a cupped corset the easy way! This is a very intense course and it is recommended that attendees are familiar with either corset making or the dress block.
This corsetry class will start with students making a toile in advance from the Sew Curvy overbust pattern and using that toile to form the basis of a new style of corset with cups. In order to make the most of our time, students will be required to make the toile in advance and the price of the course includes the kit to do this which will be sent out upon booking.
The first day of the masterclass will cover fitting and converting the toile to a cupped corset pattern, and the second day will be spent creating at least one half of the new pattern to include the cups. Students will leave the course with the knowledge and skills necessary to create the other side of the corset and to continue building their skills for future cupped corset making on all shapes and sizes of figure.
Topics covered will include:
How to convert a regular corset pattern to a cupped corset pattern How to use bust forms in corsetry How to make a pattern from bust forms How to cover and line bra cups Overview of methods of construction Overview of how to make cups from scratch without bust forms Embellishment
Upon booking students will be sent a kit containing all materials to make a toile to bring to the course. It is essential that a toile is made before the class. The kit which is included in the price of the course, will include:
Calico Corset pattern Boning, flat busk and lacing
A list of what students should bring with them will be supplied upon confirmation of booking.
In addition to the masterclass, there will be opportunities to look at part made and complete corsets, different types of corsetry and also a chance to leaf through an extensive library of corsetry books.
The cost of the masterclass is per person and includes venue hire, tuition, materials detailed above, morning and afternoon refreshments and a delicious sandwich lunch (vegetarian to cover all). Because of the format of the workshop it will not be possible to attend for one day only. Fees are non refundable but in the event of cancellation may be used towards goods or the cost of a different course/workshop.
There are only five spaces on this course. Book without delay to avoid dissapointment.
You will receive a booking confirmation upon check out. Course joining notes are sent out 1-2 weeks before the start date to all attendees.
This corsetry masterclass will be taught by Alison Campbell of Crikey Aphrodite! and Julia Bremble, owner of Sew Curvy Corsetry and author of the best selling e-book, "Corset Making, from beginner to intermediate" published by Vivebooks in 2012.
