A one day masterclass where students will study various types of couture embellishment and finishing for corsetry, including cording, external boning, binding, lace applique, flossing, invisible stitching, beading, stoning, layering, and attaching other types of frou frou including bindings, braids, lace and feathers.
Students will each work with a fabric sampler designed to demonstrate how best to apply embellishments to a corset although each technique is transferable across all design applications such as dressmaking, tailoring and lingerie making.
There will be ample opportunity to examine highly embellished finished corsets, and leaf through the extensive library of books and magazines in the studio. Topics covered during the day:
How to make corded panels
How to attach a floating liner
How to make external boning channels
Attaching crystals both manual and hotfix
Invisible hand stitching
Professional binding techniques
Attaching braids and lace trims
The following materials will be available to use for the class:
John James needles
Crystal glue and applicators
There are a minimum of 4 places on this course and a maximum of 6. If the minumum number is not reached, refunds will be issued.
A comprehensive list of other tools and equipment that students should bring to class will be supplied via email.
Because classes take place is in a dedicated corsetry studio, there are ample opportunities to examine part made and complete corsets, different types of corsets the extensive library of corsetry and sewing books.
By the end of the day students will have an extremely good understanding of how to apply various different types of couture embellishment to corsetry and dressmaking projects and how to acheive a smooth, professional finish to corsets and other garments.
The cost of the workshop includes venue hire, tuition, materials detailed above, morning and afternoon refreshments and a delicious sandwich lunch (vegetarian to cover all).
Cancellation policy: Fees are non refundable upon cancellation but may be redeemed against alternative dates/courses before the end of that current financial year (end March). For courses cancelled up to 1 month prior, fees are not refundable or transferable unless the space can be re-sold. Courses cancelled within 7 days will not be refunded. Sew Curvy retains the right to cancel or defer a course up to 7 days prior to the start date. In the unlikely event of this happening alternative dates or a refund will be offered. In the event that an alternative date is booked, then the cancellation policy comes back into force from date of booking.
